The 2009 NW Food Manufacturing and Packaging Expo demonstrated it was on the forefront of new technology through co-sponsored radio frequency identification (RFID) workshops and a pavilion. An article by Claire Swedburg in RFID Update summarizes how Oregon State University and the NWFPA are collaborating on RFID workshops and a new lab at the Food Innovation Center. RFID workshop presenter Qingyue Ling, an OSU professor of food technology, said that "the more I understand this technology, the more I realize the need for the food industry to have education about it. What I have wanted to do is provide more interaction between the food industry and RFID suppliers."
