    FDA to Emphasize Food Safety Culture

    The FDA’s operational strategy for implementing the Food Safety Modernization Act was a key topic at the annual meeting of the Association of Food and Drug Officials in Denver last month.


OSU and NWFPA Bringing RFID to NW

The 2009 NW Food Manufacturing and Packaging Expo demonstrated it was on the forefront of new technology through co-sponsored radio frequency identification (RFID) workshops and a pavilion. An article by Claire Swedburg in RFID Update summarizes how Oregon State University and the NWFPA are collaborating on RFID workshops and a new lab at the Food Innovation Center. RFID workshop presenter Qingyue Ling, an OSU professor of food technology, said that "the more I understand this technology, the more I realize the need for the food industry to have education about it. What I have wanted to do is provide more interaction between the food industry and RFID suppliers."
