Employers have discovered a treasure trove of information, good and bad, using online media such as Facebook, Linkedin, MySpace, and others. While having access to this information may be appealing initially, using this information inappropriately may unexpectedly lead to a web of legal wrangling and litigation. Privacy issues, discrimination concerns, right to work issues, etc., may lead the employer down a dark path to a civil courtroom trying to justify the search and how the information obtained by the online search was considered and used.
During this webinar, the pitfalls, promises and potential of using social media will be examined. You will discover how far you can "dig" online for information on an applicant or current employee, how much of that information you must reveal to the applicant, in what context you can ask questions of an applicant as a result of information you obtained from a social media site, along with the risks involved with using online media and ways to reduce those risks.
AIB's Rod Wheeler, an internationally known law enforcement and homeland security expert, will provide examples of real life cases where online media was used, and discuss the outcomes of those examples.
Barry Nixon, an internationally known and recognized expert on workplace violence and a human resource expert, will cover the following topics:
- How to conduct an online background search and use the information obtained legally
- How does ones "off duty" or non-work related activities impact your background search?
- The pitfalls and possibilities that exist with social media
- Is there still an expectation of privacy once one places something about themselves on the internet?
- Differentiating the good information found on the web from the bad about an applicant or current employee
- Much, much more!
This webinar will provide practical solutions that will benefit food defense coordinators, human resource managers, quality managers, plant managers and others.
