This is part of a larger subsector approach to Pioneer Employer identification, investigating industry-by-industry, sector-by-sector, and region-by-region. Northwest Food Processors Education & Research Institute is one of several grantee organizations identified as having a deep knowledge and a host of local, regional, and national connections. Each grantee is tasked with finding the Pioneer Employers in their sectors, and develops case studies about them that distill the practices and policies that make them successful. Finally, they then turn to the employers within their networks, as the primary audience for the lessons learned in these studies. The “Pioneer Employers Project” has already developed several case studies within the Health Care industry, serving as a model for studies within Food Processing. For examples within Food Processing, see below:
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (Sumner, WA) offers a range of programs to help improve the lives and livelihood of their lower income workers. Examples include their tuition reimbursement program, job advancement practices, and coaching and support. They offer a continual support for family needs through programs which enable workers to keep the job, spend the time for more training and be able to contribute back to the company. Tim’s Cascade Snacks (Algona, WA) maintains a special relationship with selected organizations who find new employees for Tim’s Cascade Snacks. Through their employee practices of watching and expecting to promote from within, Tim’s has promoted significant number of low-income employees into higher level and higher paying jobs. Each of these people has a story to tell. |
