Oregon’s food manufacturing industry is one of the lone bright spots in an Oregon Employment Department’s recent press release detailing industry job losses. Since April 2008, the industry has added 1900 jobs. The state’s unemployment rate of 12.0 in April 2009 remains well above its year-ago level of 5.6 percent in April 2008. The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 8.9 percent in April, from 8.5 percent in March.
